In order to join the graduate trainee programme you will need a degree. For our operational programme, you need a degree in any discipline at 2:2 or above – as you’ll see from our graduate profiles we have graduate trainees with a highly varied range of degrees. For the Engineering programme, you will need a 2:2 or above in either mechanical or electrical engineering.
Secondly, you’ll need to be ambitious. We’re looking for future Directors of the business - you should aspire to senior management level and you should want to reach that level rapidly.
It’s also vital that you are prepared to relocate to meet the needs of the business. You’ll spend your first two years in different locations throughout the UK. The hours aren’t a standard nine to five either, you need to be a graduate who is seeking something different from a conventional office job.
As for personal characteristics, you certainly need to be an excellent communicator, as you’ll be working with so many different people - from cleaners to the Chief Executive of the whole Stagecoach Group. An analytical mind and an aptitude for solving problems are vital. So are initiative, enthusiasm, determination and a highly organised approach to your work. Finally, you’ll need plenty of personality and a sense of fun. Stagecoach is a professional, successful business, but a bus depot is not the staid, dull type of workplace that so many graduates end up working in.
