THE SCHEME:

OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT SCHEME

Fast paced, varied, challenging and satisfying… you’ll hear all of these words used to describe the Stagecoach UK Bus graduate scheme. We’ve created a programme specifically designed to develop graduates into expert managers, and ultimately directors, in a very short time frame.

The programme centres around real hands-on involvement in the business from day one, complemented by a wide range of off-the-job development and classroom-style tuition. You don’t follow regular office hours or spend the majority of your time behind a desk or at a computer – the scheme really is very different.

Throughout your first year, you are based at locations which could be anywhere in the UK. There’s also regular travel to undertake courses and training exercises with the other graduates all over the country.

The Operational programme equips you with the knowledge and management skills you need to run one of our depots – in effect each depot is a £ multi-million business in its own right. The key to the first year is that we don't waste a single day of the programme; you follow a structured schedule that takes you through the different aspects of the business: Engineering, Finance & Budgeting, Marketing and Operations. You even learn how to drive a bus yourself.

Throughout you have the support of an experienced mentor who meets you every month to assess your progress. And, because we carefully balance the levels of responsibility and support, you'll finish the year with complete confidence in your own abilities.

For your second year, you move to a new location and take up a management position. These 12 months provide an opportunity to learn on the job and prove yourself as a leader, while you continue to receive guidance and support. After the programme has been successfully completed, you will be appointed as an operations manager in one of our operating companies. Thereafter, your future career progression will be driven by your own ambition and aspirations, with opportunities to reach director roles within two years.
