Stagecoach celebrates partnership working during ‘Catch the Bus Week’

03 Jul 2017

Regional bus companies arrange activities and offer discounts as part of national Greener Journeys bus industry initiative

Annual campaign to run from 3-9 July

Stagecoach still rated by passengers as best value bus operator in Britain

Stagecoach is joining forces with sustainable transport group Greener Journeys to celebrate partnership success and promote the benefits of bus use through the fifth annual ‘Catch the Bus Week’.

The campaign, which takes place from 3-9 July, aims to drive awareness of the benefits of taking the bus and encourage local people to make the switch from the car for some journeys in the future.

Stagecoach’s regional bus companies are working with a whole host of partners across the country. From working with other bus providers to offer joint discounted tickets to inviting passengers to stop by and meet with local MPs, councillors and managing directors; the focus is on working together to provide the best quality service for customers.

Local companies will also invite passenger organisations and local authorities to road shows to help promote the many benefits of bus travel through competitions, giveaways and on board entertainment. Many companies will also offer discounts to promote bus use. Activities designed to highlight the importance of partnership working and the time related benefits to taking the bus for passengers will also take place across Scotland, England and Wales.

Activities include:

-Twitter competitions offering a week’s free travel
-Competitions on local radio stations
-Life skills days so children can learn how to use their local bus service with confidence
-Tweet the manager sessions
-Kids Go Free offers
-Road shows with local travel partners

Stagecoach local bus companies will also highlight at the financial savings that are possible by taking the bus.

Stagecoach has four times been independently found to have the best value bus fares in Britain and a recent survey carried out by consumer group Transport Focus found that bus passengers continue to rate Stagecoach as the best value major operator in the country.

Revenue from fares is reinvested in new vehicles and improvements for customers.

Earlier this year the company announced that a new fleet of more than 340 new buses and coaches most equipped with free wifi,  will be introduced in the coming 2017-18 financial year.

The latest announcement takes Stagecoach Group's total orders of new buses and coaches to more than £1billion in the past 11 years, delivering around 7,000 new vehicles for passengers.

The company has also invested millions of pounds on a new website and state of the art app for smartphones. Millions of bus passengers across the UK can now use their smartphone to travel.

Customers across England, Scotland and Wales can now instantly buy and download Dayrider and Weekly megarider tickets straight to their smartphone through the company’s Stagecoach Bus app. Payments via the app can be made by PayPal or via debit or credit card.

The app – which was launched last year – has already been saving passengers time by providing journey planning, next-stop information and live bus tracking.

Thousands of people have so far downloaded the app to their smartphones. Feedback shows customers are particularly happy with the ability to get live service updates and being able to buy and download tickets straight to their phone.
